Missoula Phoenix 49, Glacier Knights 0
by Amy Joyner
One of WR Dave Garza's three touchdowns on the day against Knights
Missoula, MT, April 28, 2007 - With great field position for the entire first half, the Missoula Phoenix had just one first down to their credit, which was courtesy of a pass interference penalty. Likewise, Glacier held their own with no points allowed.
Less than two minutes into the second quarter, Gavin Johnson punched one over the goal line for six.
Minutes later, with a great lead block, Johnson took a 2-yard handoff from quarterback Shane Jurasek and put up 6 more points up. A blocked punt at the end zone by Zack Renner added a safety for the Phoenix.
With no time to slow down, Jurasek showed his strong arm and hit former Griz receiver Dave Garza for a 49-yard touch down pass. Only moments later, after a slower offensive roll, hit Garza yet again for a 7-yard TD pass. Mark Spencer hits the extra point making the score Phoenix 29, Glacier 0 at the end of the half.
Five minutes into the 2nd half, Johnson kept with his game and took a hand off for a 3-yard thrust over the goal line, taking the score to 36 - 0.
Just as Johnson stayed on task, Garza again stepped up very quickly, and with 4:41 left in the 3rd, gathered a 49-yard TD pass. The Phoenix then began to bring in the second string players to finish off the Knights with 4:00 left in the 3rd quarter.
With nearly 9 minutes left in the game, backup quarterback Derek Biggs hit tight end Ja'ton Simpson for a 30-yard run. Score 49-0, as it remained at the final whistle.
